our first wppi experience rocked our faces off. for those of you who don’t know about wppi (wedding & portrait photographers international), it’s a yearly convention and tradeshow that over 10,000 photographers attend. we decided to make the trip to las vegas this year. we rented a house with 6 other photographers we met on the [b] school – maya & pat, cathy & david, cailyn, and sheila. the house was perfect and helped us save a ton of money on food – we actually had tons of food left over when everyone left! if you didn’t notice, we posted some videos while we were out there. before we left for vegas, chris and i bought a flip – the coolest hd video recorder out there! i’m so glad we got it, we have tons of memories to watch now. i’ll link to them in this post, so you don’t have to go looking for them! click here to see our journey to vegas and our roomies!
our first night in vegas didn’t disappoint – awesome people, bright lights, smoky casinos, and the bellagio fountains!
anyway, on to photography! the next morning, we had the opportunity to go to brunch with becker – awesome photographer and founder of the [b] school. he brought along joe photo as well. getting to talk with these guys and just hang out was such a blessing and so inspiring! plus, the restaurant we went to, Simon, was amazing. click here to see all the noise we were making.

the wppi tradeshow was huge. there were so many things to look at – album companies, slideshow softwares, online carts, websites, cameras. to check out all the tradeshow craziness – click here.
monday night was the infamous [b] school party hosted by becker. it was held at the real world las vegas suite. there was plenty of sweet city views to take in, amazing photographers to meet and talk to, and crazy photobooth action. not only did we get to meet our online [b] school friends, but we met some photographers who have inspired us – Dane Sanders (wedding photog and author of Fast Track Photographer) and Sara France (photog and aperture extraordinaire)! check out the video clip here.
all in all, we learned so much from being able to sit down and talk with our roommates and other photographers about where they started from and how far they’ve come. we heard from more than one photographer to just go for it and He will provide – there’s nothing that could motivate us more than that. creating friendships with these awesome people was more than enough reason for us to be at wppi this year. we’re so glad we had the chance.

our last night with everybody, we went to see Love – the Beatles’ Cirque du Soleil show and had so much fun. we like to dance (the Love portion is halfway through the video).
chris + i stayed in vegas for 2 extra nights after everyone left. we had to leave the humongous house we stayed in for a week and transfer to the tropicana. i’m pretty sure this hotel never took a step out of the 1970s. i mean, it’s 2009 and it didn’t even offer wireless internet. seriously? we were really tired from the week, but made it out to see the hoover dam and tour the strip a little more… actually a lot more. my ankles are a little swollen from walking so much. and i’m pretty sure we walked through every single casino in vegas until we realized taking the monorail might be a pretty good idea on the LAST day there. here’s the video!
we also went to some photo shoots and took a TON of photos – those will have their own posts and commentary coming next week, so stay tuned! for now, check out these awesome hdr shots that chris took at a ghost town called nelson, nv.

thanks again to all the photographers we met, friends we made, and good times had by all.
